Packing Up a Kid’s Room

Tip 1: Have kids involved in the packing process

Participate with your kids in the packing process. It lessens the impression that everything is speeding up and gives them a greater sense of control. Even though it might take more time to pack with children, it will be well worth it when it comes to a child’s room. Let them help you organize the things in their room as you talk to them about what they might want to donate, keep, or throw out. It may be necessary to provide close supervision for younger children during this process, and you may find that you are packing more while they play nearby, but it is still advantageous for them to feel involved.

Tip 2: Pack their toys in an organized manner

It may be tempting to toss the toys into a box and hope for the best. But if toys are harmed, or pieces are lost, don’t be alarmed. Instead, spend the time wrapping barbies and action figures. Make sure older kids are wrapping their belongings the same way you would wrap your pricey items, like electronics.

Tip 3: Declutter!

Any move should include significant decluttering, but moving with kids requires extra care. It might be necessary to go through a child’s closet looking for outgrown clothing and shoes, throw away broken games and toys, and decide whether there are any items the child no longer wants before packing their room. The best way to involve the kids in this process is to do it with them.
