Safety tips from Hall Lane Moving and Storage that can help keep you and your household in good health

At Hall Lane Moving and Storage, we’ve helped thousands of families just like yours with moving and storage needs, no matter how big or small. That means we can help you pack up your whole household for a cross-country trek, and it means we can also help you move a single item into storage or simply relocate it. Our movers know that particularly when it comes to fitness equipment, extra considerations are needed in order to keep everyone safe. Hall Lane Moving and Storage - Commack, Long Island, NY

Fitness equipment tends to be larger, heavier, and more awkward to move than most other items in your home. The experts at Hall Lane Moving and Storage know that this can put folks into more challenging situations when it comes to home moves. We’ve compiled these tips to help you be safe if you need to move fitness equipment.

Unplug It:

You’d be surprised (or maybe you wouldn’t!) at how many times people forget this first step. Unplug the machine, remove the cord when possible, and secure it to the machine using tape or a twist tie. You don’t want the cord getting underfoot when you try to move the machine.

Read the Directions:

Many fitness machines are designed to come apart into pieces, because they are so heavy and unwieldy to move when they are put together. Keep your instruction manuals, which will have directions on what pieces can come off of the machine, and how to remove them safely.

Walk the path you’ll take. Whether you’re taking the machine to another room in the home, or taking it out of the home and onto a truck, walk the path you’ll move the machine. Remove any trip hazards on the floor. Make sure doors are open, or taken off hinges when needed. Take note of any corners, stairs, or doorways you’ll need to navigate, and take measurements to be sure you know how each piece will fit through tight spaces.

Use the Buddy System:

Don’t be afraid to ask for help—and know that sometimes, asking for help means asking two or more friends for their assistance. Ideally, you’ll also have a spotter (not just for using the machine, but also for moving it!) who can help you navigate tight spaces or step in to assist when needed.

At Hall Lane Moving and Storage, we know that plenty of our customers prefer a DIY approach or doing some parts of the moving process themselves. We’re here to support you with any scope of your move, whether that’s full service packing or just assisting with heavy furniture items. If you have fitness equipment, heavy furniture, family heirlooms, or anything else delicate or heavy that you need to move, Hall Lane Moving and Storage is here to help.
